Meet Matt

Matt Shultz is a lifelong conservative who served as a local party officer and as an elected Republican.  Since his election to the Bartow County School Board in 2004, Matt has consistently fought for lower taxes, higher standards, transparency, and greater educational opportunity. Matt is the son of a retired educator.  His wife, Stephanie, is a former teacher who trains educators across the United States.



Matt joined the United States Marine Corps upon graduating from Cass High School. During his military service Matt served as a Forward Observer and Field Radio Operator for an artillery battery.  Matt was stationed in Japan, California, and North Carolina and received numerous citations & awards during his service in the Marine Corps.  Matt has continued to invest in the military by serving on the Military Academy selection boards of both Congressman Bob Barr and Congressman Phil Gingery. Currently, Matt is an active member of the American Legion.



Matt served as the Executive Director for the Cartersville Downtown Development Authority. In this role, Matt focused on economic development, historic preservation, and small business recruitment.  Over the last 11 years, Matt has been a leader in the pharmaceutical sales industry working with physicians to improve patient care.  Matt has a Masters degree in Executive Leadership from Liberty University.



Matt has been married to his wife Stephanie for almost 18 years. Matt and Stephanie met at the University of West Georgia while they were attending classes.  They have three children: Sydney (15), Austin (12), & Anniston (5) along with 2 dogs and a fish.  All three children attend public school and are involved in a number of activities including performing arts and scouts. The family attends CrossPoint City Church in Cartersville where they are active members.



Matt has been a certified teacher in the State of Georgia since 1997 when he returned to Cass High to teach and coach at the high school level.  After leaving Cass High as a teacher, Matt was appointed to the local school council as a community business leader.  Matt was first elected to the Bartow County School Board in 2004 and is serving his third term currently.  Most recently, Matt passed the GACE (Georgia Assessment for the Certification of Educators) in Educational Leadership and carries a Specialist level (T-6) certificate.  Matt and Stephanie graduated in 2014 with an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree from Liberty University in Curriculum & Instruction with an emphasis on Educational Technology.



Matt has worked with a number of community and civic organizations.  He served on the board of directors for Keep Bartow Beautiful and the Convention and Visitors Bureau.  Matt is a former member of the Cartersville Exchange Club. Matt served on his church’s Pastor Advisory Committee and now volunteers by publishing an electronic bulletin each week. Matt and Stephanie have led church small groups in their home and are in the process of forming a young couples group.  In 2005, Matt traveled to Zambia where he had the opportunity to work on a number of projects including assisting at the local village school.  Matt and Stephanie are active in their children’s schools and extra-curricular events. They also support a number of local and national charities.
