It Is Time For Transparency!

Last night in our board work session we discussed the issue of making video recordings of the meetings available on our web site. I asked Dr. Harper to place the item on the agenda to make sure that the people of Bartow County have the opportunity to see what happens each month.

This would make the Bartow County Board Of Education the most transparent governing institution in our community. No longer would people be able to mislead the public about the actions taken at the meeting because they could see for themselves what happened.

Some members of the board do not want you to have this information because they want to keep that power for themselves. Ask yourself why an elected official would want to keep this information out of the hands of the people who elected him?

This will be a great improvement for the people of Bartow County and I am excited about the honesty and transparency that this will provide.

Click Here is the story from The Daily Tribune!

Here is an example of what this would look like from Kansas

UPDATE: This measure passed at our December meeting and we will begin posting the video in January. Our first meeting for 2009 is Monday January 12th.

My Kids Amaze Me!

Over the Thanksgiving holiday my two oldest children amazed me with how perceptive they are. Austin like most kids in school had an assignment to write the things that he was thankful for. What I did not expect was what he said on his “Turkey” papers. On his first paper he wrote how thankful he was for me because we do our devotional every night. He was also thankful for his family including both of his sisters which is never an automatic as you know!

On his other paper he said he was thankful for God and Jesus because Jesus died for our sins. Austin is 7 and this was all unprompted at school out of his own heart and head. People sometimes do not realize the importance of investing in the lives of their children but this was just great proof that what we are doing does make a difference. He is just a great little guy and I am seeing that he is starting to put it all together and it is just exciting to watch.

My 10 year old daughter Sydney had a devotional last night that used a story of servant and a king to help make the point of the bible verse she was reading. As I was tucking her in she told me that Christians were like the servants in the story. She said like the servants in the story we had a choice and a consequence in serving God who is our king. She went to explain to me that we are here as his servants to do work for God and that if we do not do that then we may not live in Heaven with Him for eternity.

These two ended up really teaching me over the last few days and it is just so cool to see them growing each and every day!
